Chapter 52 Border Hoppers

So as to not attract any unwanted attention to their new minivan, Gargillya slowed down to a normal pace.
They were driving down a road in between two large mountains on a road less traveled.
Maria looked out of her window, bored and furious.
“DRAT!”she cried in frustration. “My Christmas break is dead and gone.”
“Dude,” Logan said. “Your vacation's not the only one that's ruined. So shut up.”
“Dung heap!” Maria cried.
“HAY!” Conrad shouted. “Please shut up. School ended like, 15 minutes ago. Christmas vacation isn't diggity done. As soon as we find Freckles, you guys can leave.”
“But diggity HOW?” Maria cried.
“Hay,” Gargillya said. “We're in Vermont. It'll take a doggone long time. But don't be dorky dumpy dopes!”
“She's diggity right,” Conrad sighed. “Let's ditch being mean to each other.”
“Agreed,” Maria said.
The next few minutes were spent in silence.
“Fighter jets!” Logan gasped.
“Diggity DRAT!” Maria screamed.
The fighter jets were soaring above the minivan.
“We're not escaping this time,” Conrad groaned.
“Yes we are!” Gargillya said.
A tiny dot dropped out of one of the jets above them, and landed on top of their van with a loud thud.
A ticking could be heard.
“Bomb,” Gargillya's grandmother whispered, spitting out the dirty sock from her mouth.
“Get out of the car,” Gargillya whispered.
“What?!” Conrad asked.
“GET OUT OF THE CAR!” Gargillya screamed.
She stopped driving in the middle of a huge bridge carrying them across a bigger river. Maria, Conrad, and Logan pulled Gargillya's grandmother out to safety. Gargillya then grabbed a heavy book off of her bookshelf and slammed it into the gas pedal, leaped out the door, and watched the van carry the bomb away from them.
The jets flew over them, coming in for a landing.
“JUMP!” Gargillya screamed.
She diggity didn't give them enough time to contradict her. She simply shoved all of her companions and herself off the bridge, and into the rushing water below.
“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!”
The fighter jets landed on the bridge, after the van exploded.
“They escaped!” a pilot cursed. “I can't believe that! Keep on them, on foot!”

Conrad broke the surface of the water, gasping. He was quickly floating down the river.
He paddled towards land, where he saw Maria and Gargillya's grandmother standing.
“Where the DIGGITY is Logan?” Conrad asked.
It was then that Logan and Gargillya came into sight walking towards them.
They arrived.
Silence.
“YOU DIGGITY DARN DOG, YOU!” the pod and Gargillya's grandmother screamed.
Freckles emerged from a bush.
“FRECKLES! What an unexpected moment of contrivance!” Conrad sobbed, hugging Freckles tightly.
“I'm here, baby,” Freckles whispered, patting Conrad's back.
Logan and Maria watched then silently, smiling.
“OH,” Freckles said, unhugging Conrad. “I've already hopped the border and became a certified Canadian citizen. I'm untouchable!”
The jet pilots caught up to them.
“Diggity FREEZE!” they shouted.
Freckles repeated her story.
“Darn,” they said, and left.
“Let's go home and celebrate Christmas!” Gargillya's grandmother cried.
Everyone cheered wildly.
