Chapter 79 - Visit

The 2 desks next to Maria in Noriega's class were empty.
One belonged to Sara, who was currently on the run from the law. If she was caught, she would be forced to go to Juvi, or maybe the Witness Protection Program.
The other belonged to Vicky, who was in the hospitcal for a fractured skull and possible concussion.
Maria sat, staring at the desks for the entire class. When the bell rang, she hurried to catch up the Logan and Conrad.
“We should go visit her,” Maria said.
“Who, Sara? No way! Freckles texted me,” Conrad's voice dropped to a whisper. “She's hiding with Gargillya.”
“I meant Vicky,” Maria replied.
“Yeah. Since Amy left, the slot for her BFF is open. We should go,” Logan said.
Behind them, Katie walked by.
“Or, at least before SHE does.”

Maria, Logan, Conrad, and Miley drove to the hospital on Sunday. Sonya was already there, and led them up to Vicky's room.
“Careful,” Sonya said outside the door. “She's sleeping.”
The 4 walked in. Vicky's head was on a Britemiscope pillow. Britemiscope was an invisible gas that made the are of injury easier to heal. The pillow's fabric was covered in it. Without it, Vicky would fall into a concussion, and never wake up.
The 4 stood there silently.
“Let's adjust the Britemiscope nozzle!” Maria said.
“Touch that and she dies,” Miley said quickly. “Let's just wait here until she wakes up.”
The 4 waited for half an hour. Sonya came in with a platter of sandwhiches.
“I HATE sandwhiches!” Conrad screamed, throwing his at the wall.
When Sonya left 15 minutes later, Maria sighed angrily.
“You know, this is a huge favor for someone who isn't really our friend,” Maria vented angrily.
“What?” Logan asked.

Over on the hospital bed, Vicky's eyes fluttered open. She saw Miley and the pod sitting in front of her, discussing something.
They didn't notice that she was awake.

“This is so annoying! Why do we have to wait here for our fake friend? We should just force her to tell her the secret, instead of putting on this whole charade!” Maria cried.
“Maria, calm down! She's not COMPLETELY our fake friend!” Conrad cried.
“Beg to differ,” Maria growled.
“Excuse me?” a voice asked.
It was Vicky.
